Research existing work

This led me to five minutes https://fiveminutes.gs/. In this you have to click some things and do some interactions to keep the protagonist alive and the story going. It didn’t offer any choices in the story nor where most interactions deeply connected with the story.

I also looked into Alan Wake II. This game is a special case, because the story is complicated. The use of film integrated in the game works well because the story is about stories and dimensions. Because of this the use of a different medium works really well, but I can’t figure out the logic (if there is any) when it’s used.

Interactive stories is a whole genre and film is also used with this. An example is Bandersnatch. In this the player makes choices for the protagonist which influence the outcome of the story.
Conclusion
Using film in an interactive media is mostly a stylistic choice, but I want to go deeper than that into the meaning of work, so I thought I had hit a dead end. But then I got the idea to flip it around: what if I make the making of video the interactive part!
The idea I had: an app that gives you a script to act out in scenes, and then stitches it together into a little movie.
So to test this concept, I made a script with ChatGPT and split it into three people.

I divided my class into three groups each acting out one person without knowing what the other lines where. They filmed it and send it to me to stitch together
This is what the groups looked like while making the video’s
