1: in the city, there are many boring buildings. I wanted to decorate them by adding some plants, because plants make everyone happy (at least more than concrete)!
2: I loved this picture because of the colors. I wanted to add some more mountains by putting paint on the paper and folding it, but I forgot that the paint would be on both sides of the fold hahahaha
3: There weren’t any clouds in the sky in this picture, so I added them.
4: The grass in this picture was very boring, I added some daisies to spice it up a bit!
5: This is a picture of a typical Dutch house, but is a house really Dutch if there isn’t a bike in front?
6: I wore this outfit in the winter, but it was waaaay to cold, so I added an extra coat and a beanie.
7: I took this picture of my step moms aquarium a while ago, but there weren’t any fish in the picture, so I added some.
8: Again, the sky was a bit too boring in my opinion. My friend said it reminded her of a classical music album cover, so I put on some classical music and painted a background
9: The background in this picture is really nice, but there wasn’t anything in the front, so I added some silhouettes of different animals.
I am not sure if I am satisfied with the things I painted onto the pictures, I thought we would do something with them for the next assignment, turned out that wasn’t the plan. Now I think they are kind of boring to look at.
1: This is a picture of the bush fires in Australia. The climate change contributes to these fires and I think we are creating a living hell for ALL living species on earth if we don’t act and do something about climate change RIGHT NOW.
2: This was a picture of the explosion in Beirut. I added some camera lines on it to show you the photographers point of view to really pull you into and bring you closer to the moment.
3: this is a picture of the ‘plastic soup’ that is in the ocean. I added some goggles to show you what it would be like to be diving in the ocean.
4: I chose a picture that really showed you the gentrification of cities. I added crosses to symbolize where you are not able to live anymore, because it costs too much and it is unaffordable to live in cities like Amsterdam or Utrecht. I also added some sales signs and wrote things like: “for sale. starting from 700.000 euro” and “Rich people only!”
5: this is a picture from an artical about the effects of the pandemic on younger people. I feel like older people are always making fun of our generation now a days, because our life “is not that hard”. When I was younger I would make fun of people by drawing funny faces on them and giving them glasses or a moustache and I did just that.
I personally preferred these extra layers over the ones on my own pictures, because I think these tell story, and the ones for the second assignment don’t.
I liked the folding technique I used to paint mountains, so I tried it again. I added two layers of those mountains.
For the buildings, I was inspired by the lines Julie Mehretu paints, so I tried something like that.
I also tried to play with painting on the paper and blending there, or blending on my palette and use that colour. I used both for the buildings to add some depth.
Maybe I could use some extra textures to make the building a little more interesting…
Feedback: experiment more, so I did:
I first thought I would not like to use artificial intelligence, but after some practice it turned out to be fun!
Reflection: I think I am good at telling stories by adding an extra layer onto pictures, but I could try to experiment more.
I really liked what I did for the last big painting, because in the last semester they told me to experiment more and not try to make everything to look perfect and neat. To improve that was my main goal for the big painting, and I think I reached my goal.
I also think it is great that I pushed myself a little more to experiment with the face masks in Spark AR, because first I thought it really wasn’t my thing, but once I figured it out, it was a bit more fun.
