About

My name is Silva Westera. I’m a broad-minded composer, musician and artist who loves to learn, discover and be creative. I started piano lessons around the age of 12 and have been playing in bands since the age of 14.
Ever since, I never stopped discovering and learning new knowledge and creative skills. Such as producing, computer programming (Max MSP, SuperCollider, Scheme), learning new instruments, making videos, art and photography.

At the moment I’m a Music & Technology student at the HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht). My dream is to explore the world and myself through music and art. And in the process hopefully participate a little bit in making this world a better place for us all.
I’m a firm believer in the power of music. Not only that music has a positive influence on the brains of musicians and listeners. But also, being able to connect and unite people in a unique way. It can let a single voice be heard and has the ability to make a change.

Finding little projects to create and build my own instruments or effects has also become a great hobby of mine. Almost everyone these times is being influenced by certain algorithms in their workflow. Elements like the layout, functions and plugins in their DAW, but also the way the instrument is build, can influence the way one might create their music. Once you’re aware of this you’re able to transform these to your liking, instead of them transforming your music for you. Thus, becoming a maker instead of a user.
